Janie Tigert:    I often find myself lost in studying an animal or even a specific part of an animal or person and I picture myself patiently molding a piece of warm clay, while I am filled with joy and fulfillment. Only God can create a perfect original, I can just respectfully strive for a well crafted representation.

My art began in a workshop with artist Gary Hale at the Oklahoma City Zoo in April of 1998. My education continued under the direction of such great sculptors as Sandy Scott, Gerald Balciar, western artist Mehl Lawson, and Oklahoma’s own Betty Pat Gatliff and the great portrait artist Carrie Ballentyne. I feel very fortunate to have studied under such masterful artists.

As a native Oklahoman I began showing pieces in local galleries and shows, such as Dodson Gallery, Bricktown Gallery, Oklahoma Heritage House, The Gallery at 50 Penn Place and other shows. I have won awards in these shows since 1998 and have been an active member and officer of the Oklahoma Sculpture Society for twelve years.

Most recently I have been blessed to have commissions of both beloved pets and people that present a wonderful challenge and pleasure when someone recognizes just that special nuance of their beloved captured forever. It would be an honor to be considered for a commissioned piece and I can be contacted with the following information.
